You can do this in BRU

2 ways to do this:

1.

First
Use the section on the down - right called: "Append folder name (9)" to add folder name to all files inside each folder.

Then
move the contents (files) in every folder to the main folder. You can easily do this by going to the root folder of those folders, and searching for *. Then cutting and pasting all files to the root folder.

Then change the name of every file called (eg): Eric Smith - Bla bla bla bla
to Smith, Eric - Bla bla bla bla

Match: (.*?) (.*?)\ (.*)
Replace: \2, \1 \3

2.

First:
Match: (.*?)\ (.*)
Replace: \2, \1

Then:
Use the section on the down - right called: "Append folder name (9)

I have a list of 100 folders, each having the name of an author and each containing one or more files, with the names of the works of the authors.

Example:

Smith, John
In the heat of the night.doc
  Morning sickness.doc
  Rush hour.doc

Smith, Paul
  Shackles.doc
  Prison bars.doc

etc.

What I want is to rename all the doc files and add the name of the author as prefix. The above files should become:

Smith, John
Smith, John - In the heat of the night.doc
  Smith, John - Morning sickness.doc
  Smith, John - Rush hour.doc

Smith, Paul
  Smith, Paul - Shackles.doc
  Smith, Paul - Prison bars.doc

This can be easily done with a free software called ReNamer -

First of all you have to navigate to the location of your folders and select them all, then add them to the list.

Then add a new rule and in the Insert field add the following line, exactly the way it is:
:File_FolderName: -

Note the space before and after -.

Make sure "Prefix" is selected and also "Skip extension" is checked. Then click the "Add Rule" button.

On the right side of your window, in the new name column should appear the new names of your files. If it satisfies your needs, just click the "Rename" button in the top right corner and wait for the operation to finish.
