Download VirtualDub -
Download VobSub -

iNSTALLATiON of required software

1. Extract VirtualDub to C drive or wherever you want.
2. Run VobSub_2.23.exe setup and during the install expand Plugins and select "VobSub for VirtualDub" and "TextSub for VirtualDub and Avisynth"
3. When asked to select the directory where VirtualDub is installed at, browse to C:\VirtualDub (or wherever you installed it)
4. After you finish installing VobSub, go to your VirtualDub directory and before starting it, copy the files vobsub_vd.vdf and textsub.vdf to the plugins32 directory (also there in VirtualDub folder).

CONVERSiON of AVi to AVi with subtitle

1. Open VirtualDub.exe
2. Drag and drop your video onto VirtualDub window and it will load. Or you can go to File menu - Open video file (CTRL+O)
3. Go Video menu - Filters (CTRL+F)
4. Click the Add button and select TextSub 2.23 from the list, then click OK
5. Click the Open button and browse for your subtitle file then click on the Open button
6. Got to Styles button, choose Font, size. The font I use is Tahoma - bold - size 24. Below the Font button there is a drop-down list called "DEFAULT". For Romanian characters recognition, I have to use EASTEUROPE from the list. For English you can leave it to default.
7. Click OK and OK again on the small window where you browsed for the subtitle, then OK again on the Filters window.
8. Back to VirtualDub window, go to Video menu again - Compression (or CTRL+P)
9. Choose your desired Codec - I choose XVID MPEG-4 Codec and then click on the Configure button. I leave the default settings selected, I just change target bitrate to be the same as the bitrate of the video (you can check that from the video player you use).
10. Click OK, then OK again and go to File menu - Save as AVI (or F7), select the desired location and click the Save button.

VirtualDub will start conversion and you will have video output shown by default, so you can check if anything wrong with your subtitle text (characters improperly recognized, font too large)
