Say you have a movie but the title when you open it with VLC is www.blablabla.com, this means they edited the MKV file's metadata. You can reverse that in VLC, yes, but it won't remain saved.
To do that you need a freeware program (portable too) and 1 minute of your time.
Get MKVToolnix portable and extract it.
Open command prompt (elevated command prompt in Win 8/10 if needed) and navigate to the folder you extracted MKVToolnix in. Copy the movie in that folder too. Then, in command prompt enter the following line (but replace the underlined text with your own):
mkvpropedit "foo.mkv" -e info -s title="This Is The Title"
