When dealing with array formulas or lookup formulas (index-match, vlookup etc.) you might notice your excel works slow doing the operations. Your Excel might freeze and will do that if you insert a column or delete a value, even if unrelated to your formulas. It will freeze because it automatically recalculates everything.

To prevent recalculation until you are done "playing" with your data, make sure to set it to Manual Calculation.

To do that you have to go to the Formulas tab and in the Calculation branch (usually to the far right of the tab), click on Calculation Options and select Manual.

You can turn Automatic Calculation back on if you want to make sure your formulas won't display the incorrect results.
However, you can leave Manual Calculation always on and use the Calculate Now button (or press F9) to calculate the whole workbook at a time of your choosing.
