I had problem with the following prerequisites:
- I was using page background red
- I was using page borders of 0,5 cm (for top, bottom, left and right)
- I was using a border-less table (set borders to none)
- I filled the table with white cell backgrounds to have a nice red contour (coming from the red page background)

The problem when making the file PDF was that the hidden borders actually showed red faint lines.

I read on various blogs and forums and most people found additional things they had to to do prevent this from happening - either messing with word document content, or with PDF display.

Changing PDF display options doesn't ensure that the recipient of the PDF file will see it correctly, so that is a no go for me.

What I did was change my word document; instead of using page background and page borders, I used the following:
- I made page background white (aka no background)
- I set all page borders to 0 cm (for top, bottom, left and right)
- I used a border-less table (set borders to none)

Additional stuff I made:
- I MADE 2 ADDITIONAL ROWS, 1 at the top of the table and 1 at the bottom
- I MADE 2 ADDITIONAL COLUMNS, 1 to the left and 1 to the right
- I colored the additional rows and columns in red
- I pulled the table to be the exact size of the page in width and height - this made it create a second page, even with the text size for the line after the table set to 1
-- whenever I convert I must save just page 1 (but using a macro for this so I don't mind)

Now PDF is fine, doesn't show any faded lines.

It's a bit of extra work, yes, but if you do it when creating your file, then it shouldn't bother you. If you ultimately save it as PDF and send it like that. If you can send it as word, then just do what I did at first (page background, margins)
