With the following method I prevented file and folder deletion by mistake, or malevolent.
1. Right click the folder whose contents you want to protect.
2. Click Properties - Security - Advanced
3. Change Permissions. Notice the column "Inherited from". There is a path to the user.
4. Uncheck "Include inheritable permissions from this object's parent". A warning will appear with 3 option buttons: Add, Remove and Cancel.
5. Press Add.
6. Select the desired Name then press Edit.
7. In the "Deny" column, check: - Delete subfolders and files - Delete - Take ownership
8. Press OK, then OK again. A warning might appear (see below). Press Yes.
9. Press OK, then OK again.
10. Now enter the folder and try to delete the file. You can't. You can't even delete the folder.
By doing this to a file alone (and not the entire folder) I didn't manage to lock it against deletion. I must be missing something.
