You need MKVToolnix for this.
I filled some blanks in the tutorial from source (like open command prompt window etc.)
1.
Open command prompt window on the folder where MKVToolnix is installed - to do this SHIFT+right click on or inside the folder (not on any of the files inside).

In command prompt, type mkvinfo then the MKV file name, like this: mkvinfo <mkv filename>. If the path is long and you want to obtain the name of the file faster, just SHIFT+right click on the mkv file and select "Copy as path", then right click in CMD and select paste (CTRL+V doesn't work in CMD).

A bunch of stats / info will be written. Scroll up and find the Track that has the subtitle attributes, eg. Codec ID: S_TEXT/ASS. See the colored text below.

This line: | + Track number: 3 (track ID for mkvmerge & mkvextract: 2) has important info which is: track ID for mkvmerge & mkvextract: 2. So in case you want to use one of the two commands mkvmerge and mkvextract, you need to use 2 as an ID for the subtitles (track number is 3, but ID starts from 0 and that's why it is different from track number).

In CMD type mkvextract tracks <mkv filename> <subtitle track index>:<mkv filename>.ass (see example below - pay attention to the quotes "")

You will see some info about Progress, wait a few seconds until it reaches 100% and the command line is once again the MKVToolnix folder.

Navigate to the MKV file's folder (in our example it's C:\New folder\) and locate the ASS file. Right click on it and open in your favorite text editor (eg. Notepad, Win32Pad, Notepad++ etc.).

In the beginning part of the ASS file you will have info about the style of the font. See below. Note that 0 means disabled and 1 means enabled.

The Format says the name of the characteristic and under Style you set its value. In my case I want to double the size of my font, make it bold and add shadow (so it looks just like my SRT subtitles). To do that, following the order of the Format items, I have to change the following values in Style:
Style: Default,Arial,14,&Hffffff,&Hffffff,&H0,&H0,0,0,0,0,100,100,0,0,1,1,0,2,10,10,10,0
So my Style line will become:
Style: Default,Arial,28,&Hffffff,&Hffffff,&H0,&H0,1,0,0,0,100,100,0,0,1,1,1,2,10,10,10,0
Save the ASS file.
You can test the Style by opening the MKV file with your player and drag and dropping the newly edited ASS file onto the player to load it. See if it's the right size for you, the right font etc. If not, re-edit, then go to the next step.

Open the MKVToolnix GUI (MKVToolnix.exe). Drag and drop your MKV file on MKVToolnix window. Uncheck the existing Subtitle (the one you extracted at step 4) as we need to replace it with the newly saved one. If you uncheck (deselect) it, it will be removed from the MKV file.
11.
Drag and drop the ASS file you edited previously. A dialog box will show up asking you how you want to add the ASS file, make sure to choose "Add as new source files to the current multiplex settings" (the first option in my case, should be the same to you). It will be automatically selected, you can Start multiplexing now and saving your new MKV file.
OPTION - convert ASS to SRT and use as separate file
You can open the ASS file with SubtitleWorkshop (for example) and save it as SRT. You might still want to open your MKV file in MKVToolnix to remove the existing subtitle track (ASS), but it's not required. Most players will load the subtitle file (SRT) first anyway.
