I want to add an arrow shape over a table chart so that instead of line connectors there are arrows.

Why did I make a table chart instead of a Smart Art or Chart?
Because I have total control over it.

Using a SmartArt is easy when you want symmetry but I find it easier to work with a table when making asymmetrical charts.

1. Insert the desired arrow, make length correspond to the length of the border over which you will use it.

2. Select the arrow and go to the Shape Format tab

3. Click on Wrap Text -> More Layout Options

4. In the Text Wrapping tab set the arrow "In front of text"

5. In the Position tab uncheck "Move object with text", "Lock anchor" and "Layout in table cell".

6. Click OK. The arrow might move to the side of the page

7. Drag it and position it over the desired table border.

Note:
For finesse movement you can use arrow keys when the arrow shape is selected.

Note:
The default shape weight (line thickness) for arrows is 3/4 pt but for table borders you can use 1 pt.

Note:
To make more arrows, just copy the one you already edited and resize.
