The method above works for all files, including VBS, but for VBS files there is another method:

Script files (VBS) cannot do it because the 'Pin to Start Menu' option is not available in shortcuts to .vbs files.

The workaround would be to change the path in your shortcut to:

C:\Windows\system32\cscript.exe "C:\scripts\script.vbs"

Where "C:\scripts\script.vbs" is the full path of your script that already exists in your shortcut target.

Pin any file to taskbar:

1. Open File Explorer.

2. Enable the Show file extensions option in File Explorer.

3. Go to the folder which contains the file you want to pin to the taskbar.

4. Rename the target file (select the file and press F2) and change its extension from, let's say ".txt" to ".exe".

5. Right-click the renamed file and select "Pin to taskbar".

6. Rename the file and restore its previous (original) extension.

7. Right-click on the pinned icon on the taskbar to open the context menu.

8. In the context menu, right-click the file name and select Properties.

9. The Properties dialog will open. Modify the text value in the Target field and change the extension portion to the original file extension.

10. Click on the Change icon button and select a new icon for your pinned file. Click OK and Apply.

11. Sign out from your user account and sign-in back in order to apply a new icon to your pinned file. See the following article: https://winaero.com/blog/change-a-pinne ... indows-10/

To pin any excel file to taskbar when right clicking the excel app pinned to taskbar, just drag and drop it on the excel icon on taskbar. Before letting the mouse button go in order to pin it, you will see a balloon saying "Pin to Excel"

Works the same for PDF files assuming you have the PDF opening app pinned on taskbar.
