I have an older version of Firefox installed that I would like to use when I need it, but also want to install the latest version of Firefox an use that.

1.

Download the new Firefox from here:
Choose the desired language and Windows version and hit the Download button.
This will download the offline installer.

2.

Rename your desktop shortcut of your current (older) Firefox, for example to Firefox OLD.

3.

Install Firefox to a different folder.
Default installation folder is "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox", but your older version of Firefox is installed there.
So just name another installation path like "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox NEW"

DO NOT START Firefox WHEN INSTALL IS FINISHED - VERY IMPORTANT

4.

Go to Start - Run and type
Firefox.exe -p
then press ENTER.
Here you can see the name of your current Firefox profile (in my case its name is default).

5.

A Firefox - Choose User Profile window will open.
Click on "Create Profile" and then Next.
Name your profile (I named mine "FFnew" and click on Finish.

6.

When back to the Firefox - Choose User Profile window, uncheck "Use the selected profile without asking at startup", then click Exit.

7.

Right click on your older Firefox desktop shortcut and choose properties.
In the Target field, go at the end of the path, after " and put a space and type: -p "default"
like this:
"C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -p "default"
I put default because that's the name of my old profile.
Click OK.

8.

Now right click on your new Firefox desktop shortcut and choose properties.
In the Target field, go at the end of the path, after " and put a space and type: -p "FFnew"
like this:
"C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox NEW\firefox.exe" -p "FFnew"
Click OK.

9.

Now whenever you start Firefox from the new shortcut, the FFnew profile will open and the old shortcut will start the old profile.

NOTE:
You can also use both browsers at the same time.
I have the older version open now, writing this post and started the new one to set some privacy preferences, see here:
