I copied some data from a report in US English to verify the totals compared to a report made in local regional settings.
Apart from the fact that data copied from Word has spaces that I removed with using TRIM, I need to convert a number like 1,234.56 (text) to 1234,56 (number).
Simply put, the formula is: =NUMBERVALUE( SUBSTITUTE( SUBSTITUTE( TRIM(A10) ;",";"") ;".";",") )
This is done in reverse, of course.
So, first I did the TRIM to lose any trailing spaces in front of the number, then I used a SUBSTITUTE to first replace the comma with nothing, then another SUBSTITUTE that will replace the full stop with a comma for decimals in local regional format, then all this enclosed in a NUMBERVALUE function (available from Excel 2021 I think) that will convert the text to a number.
