If upon applying a lot of steps to your query, you notice there's a different number of rows than in the original/raw data, you might want to find the number of rows after specific steps to see where rows were removed or added.
You will delete the step after you count the rows, because all the data after the next step will produce errors. The step below generates only a number - the number of total rows at the specific point in your applied steps list.
1. In Power Query, select the desired step where you want to count rows
2. Go to the Transform tab
3. Click on Statistics -> Count Values Note: if you want to count unique values for a specific column, make sure you select it first, then choose Statistics -> Count Distinct Values
4. You will be asked if you are sure you want to insert a step - click Insert
5. A "Calculated Count" step will be inserted displaying the total number of rows, e.g. 59759
6. Delete the step.
