There is a folder in C:\Windows containing installed updates (it's the Windows update folder).
The folder is WinSxS.
In my case it has 22.5 GB and 140.000 files inside.
While it's safe to clean it up, this will prevent you from uninstalling previously installed Windows updates.
Safe ways: - Why not save it on another drive in a zip archive? Because trying to restore like this will fuck up your system. Search if you want more info. - Only way is to backing up your C drive bit-by-bit with software like Macrium Reflect or Clonezilla. If an update causes an issue later, you can restore the entire drive image to exactly how it was before the cleanup. Not ideal, since this might happen a long time from now, but hey.
So, choose wisely young padawan.
The command to clean it is ran through Command Prompt (opened as administrator):
| DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup |
or
| DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup /ResetBase |
for an even more thorough clean up of the WinSxS folder, and deletes all previous versions of every updated component.
WARNING /ResetBase marks the currently installed version of every system file as the new "base" version. Windows then considers your current setup as the factory default. Because the old files are completely gone, you will be permanently locked out of uninstalling any existing Windows Updates or Service Packs.
