Some users might not be happy with the Search feature in Windows 7 and would rather use a third party utility like Everything (Download) instead. If so, you may want to get rid of the search feature to free up some real estate in Explorer and the Start Menu.

In short, all you need to do is go to:
control panel - programs and features - [on the left of the window click on] turn windows features on or off - [in the small windows that appears look for] windows search - [select to enable, deselect to disable] - OK - restart your computer
