I read about this on a website and I thought of making a tutorial here by copying bits of text from there.

The source of the tutorial is:

Credits to the howtogeek members who posted everything.  :hi:

Now I will take my example and explained the way I did it.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. I created a new shortcut of firefox.exe on desktop and changed its name and icon, so it doesn't interfere with the other firefox shortcut (this is not my computer but I want to have a profile on it without interfering with the default profile used by other people)

2. I edited the Target field of this new shortcut to:

"C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -P "Lucky" -no-remote

and saved the new path hitting the OK button.

3. I opened the newly created shortcut and the profile manager popped:

As you can see it only has the default profile.
So I hit Create Profile button and name it: Lucky.

4. I edited the default shortcut and added the following to the target line: -p "default"
The full target line of the default shortcut is now:

"C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -p "default"

Now if I open firefox from the default shortcut the default profile will load.
When I open firefox from my new shortcut the "Lucky" profile will load.

5. On the above website there was a user asking how to force firefox to use the default profile when opening links from other programs (such as Outlook, Yahoo Messenger, etc.).

5a. Go to start - run - write: regedit - hit enter

5b. Navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > Software > Microsoft > Windows > CurrentVersion > App Paths > firefox.exe

5c. In that location, change the values of the (Default) and Path keys to match your Firefox installation you want as the default (if you want it to use the default profile enter the following: "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -p "default"). Of course change the path to correspond to your Mozilla path.

6. Now I will use the FEBE addon to restore a saved profile I have to the Lucky profile.
