After reading some posts on the kmplayer forums, the solution that really worked was the one of member Kirua. Thanks for that, whoever you are.
Here's the way I did it (the complete way):
1. Open notepad and copy paste the following:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\KMPlayer.mp4\DefaultIcon]
@="\"C:\\Program Files\\The KMPlayer\\KIconLib.dll\",43"
"PreviousDefaultIcon"="\"C:\\Program Files\\The KMPlayer\\KIconLib.dll\",43"
[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\KMPlayer.mp4\ShellEx\IconHandler]
@="{B327765E-D724-4347-8B16-78AE18552FC3}" |
The set of 3 lines... I don't know if is really necessary, but I tried it first (from another user's post) and added the other set (of 2 lines) after reading Kirua's post. No harm done if you put both. You can put only the first line (Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00) and the last 2, see if it works. Anyway, step 2 is needed.
Just refreshing (F5) the folder with MP4 files didn't change their icons, so I did this:
2. Right click one MP4 file, select Open with and then Choose default program... From the list select KMPlayer, make sure that Always use the selected program to open this kind of file is also selected, and hit OK. This will refresh the icons and MP4 files will have theirs.
