Say you have a chart with 40 vertical bars. You need to make 30 of them red and 10 green. Unfortunately in charts you can't select multiple bars at once (using a key combination; ie like CTRL+click works for multiple cells). What you need to do is:
1. Make all of them red first. 2. Select only one and change its color to green. 3. Select the next one and press F4. 4. And the next one, and so on until there are 10 green bars.
Pressing F4 makes the process a bit faster because otherwise you would have to click each bar and go to the ribbon and click "fill color" each time. This way you put both your hands and work, thus making the process faster and less annoying.
