If you copy a table from a website directly to word, it might have double border that you won't be able to remove / replace with single border from Borders and shading.
In order to remove double borders you have to do the following:
1. Right click on the table - "Table properties"
2. In the "Table" tab, at the bottom there is a button called "Options"
3. Un-tick "Allow spacing between cells".
4. Ok.
