A lightweight utility that helps users extract burn-in subtitles from AVI and AviSynth files and save them to SRT, SSA, or SAMI file format

AVISubDetector is a lightweight Windows application designed to help users extract burn-in subtitles from AVI and AviSynth files.

Since this is a portable program, it is important to mention that it doesn’t leave any traces in the Windows Registry. You can copy it on any USB flash drive or other devices, and take it with you whenever you need to extract subtitles on the breeze.

AVISubDetector boasts a clean interface that allows users to add items to the list by using the browse function, so you cannot rely on the “drag and drop” support. The layout is not very intuitive, so rookies may spend some time trying to configure the dedicated parameters.

The application provides three different modes for carrying out the extraction process: namely manual, automatic, or OCR mode. The subtitles can be saved to the following file formats: SRT, SSA, or SAMI file format.

There are several dedicated parameters designed to help you adjust the RGB, apply cropping operations, as well as configure the OCR settings.

On the downside, the program hasn’t been updated for a while, so it may cause compatibility issues on newer operating systems.

During our testing we have noticed that the tool accomplishes a task quickly and without errors throughout the entire process. It doesn’t eat up a lot of CPU and memory, so the overall performance of the computer is not affected.

All things considered, AVISubDetector comes packed with handy parameters for helping you extract subtitles that are stored on videos. It cannot be considered the most powerful tool on the market, as it still needs some improvements in the GUI area to make the process more intuitive.
