Excel works really slow sometimes, especially on big files or on files that contain lots of data and/or formulas. In the bottom right corner of the Excel window it shows some message like "Calculating threads..." or something.
Some computers / laptops might not support "multi-threaded calculation" real well, usually because of the lack of upgraded hardware.
Go to File - Options - Advanced
Scroll down to the Formulas subsection (should be almost all the way down)
Uncheck "Enable multi-threaded calculation"
Click OK
Test some operation that used to take long
