This features enable Notepad++ to remember the language depending on file extension.
I want to open all AutoHotkey files (ahk extension) using the AutoIt language coloring, so to save this preference:
1. Go to Settings - Style Configurator
2. Select the language on the left
3. At the bottom, two fields appear: "Default ext." and "User ext."
4. In "User ext." field add the desired extension, in my case simply ahk (without the dot)
5. Click the Save & Close button
6. Reopen any ahk file you have open, or restart Notepad++
