[EXCEL] Multiple Index Numbering For the Same Column

In column E I have multiple locations, and in column F I want to generate an Index column starting from 1 for each of the locations.

E.g.:

E F
A 1
A 2
A 3
A 4
B 1
B 2
B 3
C 1
C 2
C 3
C 4
D 1
D 2

Classical solution (drag down on all rows) - works on all Excel versions:

= COUNTIF($E$2:E2; E2)

Spill solution - works on Excel 2024 & 365
