This is an old archive format that was flagged as a security issue.
I had a few older files I trusted archived like this.
I downloaded PeaZip portable and extracted. I downloaded the PeaZip UNACE plugin (.tar archive) and extracted the unace folder inside the .tar archive to the /res/bin/ folder of my portable PeaZip.
Download PeaZip portable: https://peazip.github.io/peazip-portable.html Download UNACE plugin: https://sourceforge.net/projects/peazip ... %20Plugin/
1. I opened a CMD window inside the unace subfolder (e.g., inside: D:\Program Files\peazip_portable-11.3.0.WIN64\res\bin\unace).
2. I inputted the full path to my .ace file between quotes, e.g. "D:\Ace files\Stuff.ace" and hit Enter key.
The Windows 'Select an app to open this .ace file' dialog opened ▶ Choose an app on your PC ▶ I located peazip.exe inside D:\Program Files\peazip_portable-11.3.0.WIN64.
3. I clicked Extract here (smart new folder).
To understand why I used .ace back then (2005), a folder archived with 6500 files in .ace format resulted in a 53 MB file, while WinRAR Best today is 108 MB. On a 4 GB HDD it mattered to halve the sizes of all your archives. I had no idea of LZMA back then (and LZMA2 was launched in 2009). Tested now with 7z LZMA compression and it yielded an even smaller file - 20.4 MB. But nowadays it does not matter anymore.
