By default, the spell checker will be active.
To verify if it is, go to: Options - Advanced and make sure that "Check my spelling as I type" is ticked.
Want dictionaries? Sure: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... age-tools/
You can select which dictionary you want active by right clicking a misspelled word, search the menu for "Languages" and select the installed dictionary you need.
But Mozilla doesn't check everywhere, like topic titles for example. So:
- type into the address bar: about:config
- type in the filter bar: layout.spell
- double click "layout.spellcheckDefault" and set the value to 2
Now Mozilla will check words everywhere, even in text boxes and web forms.
You can always right click on a misspelled word to check for corrections.

Spell checker not working, even if it's activated from Options - Advanced.
Type about:config<enter> in the address bar.
If a warning screen comes up, press the Be Careful button.
At the top of the screen is a search bar.
Type: layout.spellcheckDefault Its values are:
0 Spell Checker Off
1 Check Only Multi-Line Input Boxes.
2 Check Multi And Single Line Input Boxes.
If it's 0, then just change it to 1 or 2. Then go to a text area and without selecting text, right click in it, go to languages and select a language. If no dictionary is installed, you can install it from there.
