Select the entire range you want formatted based on a column whose cells contains specific text.
Go to Conditional Formatting - New Rule - Use a formula ...
Adapt the following formula to your needs:
=SEARCH("n/a";$E4)
I was looking for the string "n/a" in column E starting from E4.
